Matthew J. Eckel is a Real Estate Attorney. He primarily represents clients on matters involving zoning, permitting, and licensing. Mr. Eckel has represented developers, affordable housing organizations, cannabis establishments, restaurant owners, retailers, and home owners in a variety of matters relating to zoning and development. In his legal career, Mr. Eckel has worked with local property owners seeking to renovate, erect additions, or change the use of their property, as well as affordable housing organizations and developers in their efforts to develop residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. In addition, he has worked with billboard companies, cannabis dispensaries, restaurants and local establishments in securing the necessary approvals, licenses, and permits.
Mr. Eckel earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he graduated cum laude and was a member of the University’s rugby team. He graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School and was a recipient of one of the Law School’s Jurisprudence Awards. Mr. Eckel was also a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Association. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. Before joining the firm, Mr. Eckel worked for a number of years in a Boston law firm specializing in zoning and permitting in Boston and the surrounding municipalities. During law school, he worked as a law clerk at the Boston Zoning Board of Appeal. Mr. Eckel also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Bruce R. Henry at Middlesex Superior Court.
